Kanchenjunga Trek|South & North Base camp

Whenever it comes about Kanchenjunga trek, the image of the third world’s highest mountain and its beauty comes into mind. There’s a lot of myths and stories attached to this beautiful mountain, related to the culture of the local’s of Nepal and Sikkim.

An isolated region with very less tourist despite its stunning natural beauty- the Kanchenjunga was opened since 1988 for trekkers and still requires a special permit to trek here.

Situated on the borders of eastern Nepal, of Sikkim and Tibet, you have the possibility to trek and reach the both South and North base camp of Kanchenjunga. The vibe of trekking to Kanchenjunga base camp is not the same as of the Everest or Annapurna. You can expect to see very few tourists and expedition groups.

The Kanchenjunga trek takes you to the high snow-covered mountains, traditional villages, and terraced fields.

The magnificent scenery, the discovery of new culture and the hike to the viewpoint of the famous Jannu-Kumbharkarna (7710m) makes this trek to Kanchenjunga, a wonderful experience.

We will start our journey to Kanchenjunga from Bhadrapur, from where we will drive toward Taplejung and Chirwa.

Highlights of Kanchenjunga trek

Wonderful trek in the heart of the very little frequented massif

– Diverse landscapes from subtropical valleys to high passes

– Exceptional high mountain and glacier panoramas

Trekking in both south (Oktang) and North (Pangpema) base camp of Kanchenjunga

– Hike to the viewpoint of Jannu (7710m)

  • Are the lodges available during the Kanchenjunga Trek?

Yes, you will find the lodges during the trek. The lodges here are still basic in comparison to Everest or Annapurna.

If you are travelling in a big group, then camping would be a better option.

  • How hard is Kanchenjunga trek?

An earlier trekking experience in high altitude would be enough. You should be physically and mentally fit.

Despite its remoteness, this trek can be completed safely as the altitude will always be lower than 5000 meters. We do have a rest day in Ghunsa allowing us to acclimatise before we head above 4000m.

  • About Kanchenjunga Trek Permit?

You will need to take special permits to trek around Kanchenjunga. Find more info about special permits here: PERMIT INFO
