The Annapurna High passes trek is another version of the famous Annapurna Circuit Trek but a bit difficult and of course much more exciting one.

This trek is the great combination of Nar Phu valley trek, Annapurna Tilicho lake trek and Mesokanto La Pass trek. We can say without a doubt that it is one of the best treks in the Annapurna region.

If you are looking to avoid the crowds of classic Annapurna circuit trek or Annapurna base camp, this is a great choice.


During this trek, we will pass through the remote villages of Nar & Phu. We will cross the Kang La Pass and descend to the classic route of Annapurna.

From Manang, we will head toward Tilicho Lake leaving behind the trail that goes to Thorong La Pass. Then, we cross the beautiful Mesokanto La Pass and descend to Jomsom.

The visit to Nar and Phu village is noteworthy, where you get to see the life of local people with the culture very similar to Tibet. The side trips around these villages are amazing.

Permit for Nar Phu valley Trek

You will need special permit to enter in Nar Phu valley. The permit will cost 100 USD per person/per week.

For Tilicho and Mesokanto La, you will just need to take Annapurna conservation entry fee and TIMS Card.

Suitability: a good choice for regular hill walkers, high level of fitness required.
  1. Walking times: average 6 to 8 hours walking per day (with several longer days up to 12 hours) for up to 14 days with some rest days included.
  2. Altitude: up to 5,500m.
  3. Terrain: for some of the time following well-travelled trails although also likely to encounter rough and rocky sections. There may be significant amount of ascent and descent.
  4. Remoteness: often in more remote areas and normally a longer distance from nearest road and facilities available in a city.
