Dolpo to Mustang Trek

Our itinerary is quite long where we will trek along to Chharka Bhot via Phoksundo Lake, then head toward Araniko Chuli Base camp before entering to Lomanthang, Mustang. For this, you will need to take the special permits for both Upper Dolpo and Upper Mustang.

Another option that you can follow is head toward Niwas La and Jungben La pass from Chharka Bhot, which will lead you to Sangta and then to Kagbeni. You will need to take the special permit for only Upper Dolpo.

You do can start this trek from Upper Mustang. The another great itinerary is to follow the Upper Mustang trail until Lomanthang, then head toward Araniko Chuli Base camp and descend to Phalyak via Ghermi La, Niwas La & Jungben La.

If you have enough time and are willing to walk, then trekking from Beni to Dolpo via Dhorpatan is a great choice.

If you are limited in time and want to do it more comfortably, the flight is the best option.

If you are adventurous enough and want to do it by road, there’s still a possibility. You can take the bus from (Kathmandu-Nepalgunj-Jajarkot) and then to Talubagar by a small vehicle. From there, you will need to walk for around 3 days to reach Dunai.

The new routes are opened and constructed in Nepal every year. So, the above information could not be precise.

You can take the bus until Jumla and then start trekking to enter Dolpo.

With around 5x 5000m and 2x5600m passes to be crossed, 20 days of continuous trek above 3800m, this will be a long and challenging trek. You will be trekking in a very remote region of Nepal and away from all the infrastructures.

One should be physically fit enough and should be able to walk around 7-8 hours per day.

Autumn is the best season to do this trek. It is ideal to start the trek around mid-October.
